Why the cap exists at all
Without it, a bonus could be turned into a single large stake with a near-coin-flip outcome: stake the lot on one hand, and roughly half the time walk away with a balance that needed almost no turnover to build. The maximum bet forces the bonus through many small bets instead, which is what gives the house edge time to work.
Read that way, the clause explains the whole product. A wagering requirement is not a hurdle for its own sake; it is a mechanism for ensuring that the bonus is exposed to the edge for long enough to be paid for.
Where people get caught
- A bonus buy or feature purchase, which counts as a single large stake.
- Autoplay left running at a stake set before the bonus was claimed.
- A table game where the total across a layout exceeds the cap even though each chip does not.
- Switching games and inheriting the previous game's stake setting.
None of those are edge cases. All four are ordinary behaviour, which is why the clause exists in this form.
